Scholarships
The university doesn’t offer a full scholarship.
The academic and technical qualifications included in this degree complement each other and open up careers ashore or at sea.
On completion of the Deck Cadetship, students will become qualified Deck Officers and awarded a UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Deck Officer’s Certificate of Competency (STCW’95 II/I OOW).
In simple terms, a Deck Officer working onboard a typical ship will be on scheduled watchkeeping duties on the bridge at sea, involved in navigation, planned maintenance and cargo operations.
A Deck Officers’ responsibilities when on Duty often include passage planning, ensuring safe navigation, stability, communications, managing cargo operations and planned maintenance of the hull and deck equipment.
